Phorbol ester induces abnormal chronic lymphocytic leukemia cells to express features of hairy cell leukemia.
We have investigated the relationship between chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), hairy cell leukemia (HCL), and different normal B cell subsets: Mrbc+, T1+ and slgM+ tonsil cells; germinal center; mantle zone; and peripheral blood B lymphocytes. Both malignant and normal cells were incubated in vitro with the phorbol ester 12-O-tetradecanoyl-phorbol-13-acetate (TPA) for 72 hours and the morpho...
متن کاملTumor cells of hairy cell leukemia express multiple clonally related immunoglobulin isotypes via RNA splicing.
Hairy cell leukemia (HCL) derives from a mature B cell and expresses markers associated with activation. Analysis of immunoglobulin variable region genes has revealed somatic mutation in most cases, consistent with an origin from a cell that has encountered the germinal center. One unusual feature of hairy cells (HCs) is the frequent expression of multiple immunoglobulin heavy chain isotypes, w...
متن کاملHairy cell leukemia-variant.
Hairy cell leukaemia variant is a very rare chronic lymphoproliferative disorder and is closely related to hairy cell leukemia. We hereby describe a case of hairy cell leukaemia variant for the first time in Saudi Arabia. An elderly Saudi man presented with pallor, massive splenomegaly, and moderate hepatomegaly. Hemoglobin was 7.7 g/dl, Platelets were 134 x109/l and white blood count was 140x1...
متن کاملHairy Cell Leukemia in a Young Male: An Unusual Presentation
Dear Editor-in-Chief A 28 yr male was presented in October 2015 at Medicine Outpatient Department, Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi- India with generalized weakness, fever and cough for preceding 15 days. Clinicoradiologic examination revealed pallor, firm, non-tender splenomegaly measuring 13.7 cm and hepatomegaly (liver span - 16.9 cm). However, no lymphadenopathy was found.
متن کاملPolyclonal T-Cells Express CD1a in Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) Lesions
Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a complex and poorly understood disorder that has characteristics of both inflammatory and neoplastic disease. By using eight-colour flow cytometry, we have identified a previously unreported population of CD1a(+)/CD3(+) T-cells in LCH lesions. The expression of CD1a is regarded as a hallmark of this disease; however, it has always been presumed that it wa...
